HVAC Licensing in Micanopy, Florida

Who Needs a License

Any person who installs, repairs, or maintains heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in Micanopy must hold a valid Florida HVAC contractor license. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, HVAC work is regulated by the state as a construction trade requiring licensure. This includes installation of new systems, replacement of major components, and service work on commercial or residential units.

How to Get Licensed

Florida's Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) administers HVAC licensing under Fla. Stat. § 489.107. To become licensed:

  1. Meet qualifications: You must satisfy experience and education requirements under Fla. Stat. § 489.113. Typically, this requires four years of documented HVAC work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  2. Apply to CILB: Submit an application to the Construction Industry Licensing Board through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). The application must include proof of qualifying experience or education.

  3. Pass the state exam: You must pass the HVAC contractor exam administered by CILB. The exam tests knowledge of Florida building codes, HVAC systems, and trade practices.

  4. Obtain fingerprint clearance: A background check is required.

Once approved by CILB, you receive your state HVAC contractor license, which permits you to operate in Micanopy and throughout Florida.
