Real Estate Licensing in Glen St. Mary, Florida
Who Needs a License
Under Florida law, a real estate license is required to engage in the business of selling, buying, exchanging, leasing, or renting real property, or to offer such services to the public. [Fla. Stat. § 489.105] defines a "real estate broker" as any person who, for compensation or valuable consideration, sells, exchanges, purchases, rents, or leases real property, or who offers to engage in these activities on behalf of others.
If you perform real estate services—including listing property, negotiating sales, managing rental transactions, or representing buyers or sellers—you must hold a current license issued by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
How to Get Licensed
Step 1: Meet Eligibility Requirements
You must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Florida (for broker licenses). [Fla. Stat. § 489.105]
Step 2: Complete Pre-Licensing Education
Complete 24 classroom hours of approved real estate courses covering Florida law, contract writing, and ethics.
Step 3: Pass the State Exam
Submit your application to DBPR with proof of completed education and pass the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) examination.
Step 4: Apply to DBPR
Contact the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Division of Real Estate, to submit your application, examination results, and any required fingerprinting and background checks.
