Contractor Licensing in Parker, Florida

Who Needs a License

In Florida, construction work is regulated by the state. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, a "contractor" is defined as any person who undertakes to, offers to, purports to have the capacity to, or submits a bid to construct, repair, or improve any building or structure for others for compensation.

If you perform construction work in Parker for payment—whether as a general contractor, specialty contractor, or building contractor—you must obtain a state license before beginning work. This applies to residential, commercial, and public work.

How to Get Licensed

  1. Meet qualification requirements: Under Fla. Stat. § 489.113, you must demonstrate 4 years of experience in your trade within the 10-year period before application, or hold an equivalent recognized credential (such as a journeyman's license).

  2. Pass the CILB exam: Apply through the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB). Fla. Stat. § 489.111 establishes licensure by examination as the standard pathway. You must pass the CILB-administered exam covering your contractor class.

  3. Submit your application: Contact the CILB directly (part of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation). The board processes applications statewide; there is no separate Parker city application for state licensure.

  4. Obtain your license: Once approved, you receive your Florida contractor license, valid statewide.
