Who Needs a License

Real estate licenses in Florida are issued by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), Division of Real Estate.

• Sales Associate: Complete a 63-hour pre-licensing course from an approved provider, pass the state sales associate exam, and maintain an active broker sponsorship.
• Broker: Complete additional broker-level coursework, pass the broker exam, demonstrate 24 months of active experience as a sales associate within the past 5 years (or equivalent), and meet character and competency requirements under Fla. Stat. § 489.105.

Apply through the DBPR Division of Real Estate website. The state does not require local pre-licensing approval before applying.
