Who Needs a License

A home inspector in Florida must be licensed if they perform home inspections for compensation. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, a home inspection is defined as the examination of the systems and components of a residential structure to assess their condition and safety. This includes evaluating structural elements, mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing, and other major components.

How to Get Licensed

Step 3: Apply to the Construction Industry Licensing Board

Submit your application, proof of qualifying experience or education, examination results, and fees to the Construction Industry Licensing Board, established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107. The Board processes applications at the state level.

Step 4: Obtain a Rockledge Permit

Once licensed by the state, contact the Rockledge Building Department to determine whether a local permit or registration is required to operate within city limits. Local requirements may apply in addition to state licensure.

The City of Rockledge enforces building and contractor regulations through its municipal code. Review the Rockledge Municipal Code for any local amendments, permit fees, or additional requirements specific to home inspectors operating in the city.
