Electrical Licensing in Boulevard Gardens CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

Any person who performs electrical construction work in Boulevard Gardens must hold a valid Florida electrical contractor license. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "electrical construction" includes the design, installation, alteration, repair, or maintenance of electrical systems and equipment. This covers residential, commercial, and industrial work. A license is required whether you are self-employed or working for a licensed contractor.

How to Get Licensed

Florida electrical licensing is administered by the Construction Industry Licensing Board under Fla. Stat. § 489.107. To become a licensed electrical contractor:

  1. Meet qualifications under Fla. Stat. § 489.113, which requires:
  2. Four years of practical experience in electrical construction work, or
  3. An approved apprenticeship program plus relevant experience, or
  4. A combination of formal education and experience (specific ratios outlined in the statute)

  5. Apply to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), which administers licensing on behalf of the Construction Industry Licensing Board.

  6. Pass the state examination covering electrical code, safety, and business practices.

  7. Submit proof of workers' compensation insurance and general liability insurance as required by state law.

Veterans with relevant military training may qualify for credit toward experience requirements under Fla. Stat. § 489.1131.

Contact the DBPR directly for current application fees, exam schedules, and detailed qualification documentation requirements.
