Plumbing Licensing in Parkland, Florida
Who Needs a License
Any person who engages in plumbing work in Parkland must hold a valid Florida plumbing license. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, plumbing is defined as work involving the installation, repair, or maintenance of pipes, fixtures, and appliances for water supply, drainage, and gas systems in buildings and structures.
A plumbing license is required for all work except those activities explicitly exempted by state law. The license classifies practitioners as either Plumbing Contractors (managing crews) or Plumbers (performing the work directly).
How to Get Licensed
Florida plumbing licenses are issued by the Construction Industry Licensing Board under authority of Fla. Stat. § 489.107.
Steps to licensure:
-
Meet experience requirements per Fla. Stat. § 489.113: typically four years of documented plumbing experience under a licensed plumber, or equivalent apprenticeship hours through the Department of Education.
-
Pass the Florida plumbing exam administered by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). The exam tests knowledge of Florida Plumbing Code, safety standards, and trade practices.
-
Apply through DBPR with proof of experience, exam passage, and any required fees. Applications are processed at the state level, not locally.
-
Obtain local Parkland authorization (see Local Requirements below) before performing work in the city.
See Fla. Stat. § 489.113 for detailed qualification standards and restrictions on license holders.
Local Requirements
