Plumbing Licensing in Goodland CDP, Florida
Who Needs a License
Any person who offers to perform, or performs, plumbing work in Goodland CDP must hold a current Florida plumbing license. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, plumbing is defined as the installation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of pipes, fixtures, and appliances used in the supply, distribution, and use of water in buildings, and the installation and maintenance of drainage and vent systems.
Work that requires licensure includes installing water lines, gas piping, drain and vent systems, water heaters, and sanitary or storm sewers within or connected to buildings. Even minor repairs and alterations typically fall under this definition and require a license.
How to Get Licensed
Florida plumbing licenses are issued by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB), established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107.
Steps:
- Meet qualifications under Fla. Stat. § 489.113, which requires:
- For a Master Plumber: five years of practical experience as a plumber, plus passage of the state examination
- For a Journeyman Plumber: four years of practical experience, plus state examination
-
For a Apprentice Plumber: registration and compliance with apprenticeship requirements
-
Apply through CILB directly—this is a state-level process, not a local one. You will need to submit proof of experience, identification, and pay applicable fees.
-
Pass the CILB examination for your desired license level.
-
Maintain your license by renewing it according to state requirements.
Contact the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board for current application procedures, examination dates, and fees.
Local Requirements

Exemptions
Under Fla. Stat. § 489.103, the following are exempt from licensure requirements:
- Work performed by a property owner on their own property (owner-builder exemption), with limitations
- Certain maintenance and repair work performed by employees of their employer on the employer's property
- Work performed under the direct supervision of a licensed plumber
However, exemptions are narrowly construed. Even if an exemption may apply, work must still comply with all applicable building codes and may still require permits.
