Sewer/Water Licensing in Vineyards CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

Any person who undertakes, offers to undertake, or represents themselves as able to undertake the installation, repair, or maintenance of water or sewer systems must hold a valid state license under Florida's Construction Industry Licensing Board. This applies to both full-service work and work advertionally offered as sewer/water services in Vineyards CDP.

Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "sewer or water contractor" means a person who engages in the business of installing, repairing, or maintaining sewer or water lines and facilities. If you perform this work—or hold yourself out as capable of performing it—you need licensing.

How to Get Licensed

Step 1: Meet Experience Requirements
Per Fla. Stat. § 489.113, you must document at least four years of experience in sewer and water contracting work within the ten years preceding application, including substantial supervisory or management experience.

Step 2: Pass the State Examination
The Construction Industry Licensing Board (established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107) administers the licensing exam. You must pass the examination covering sewer and water construction practices and Florida Statutes Chapter 489 requirements.

Step 3: Submit Application to the State
Apply directly to the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board with proof of experience, passing exam scores, and the required application fee. The state board processes all contractor licensing; local governments do not issue these licenses.

Step 4: Obtain Local Permit
Once you hold a valid state license, contact the Collier County Building Department or Vineyards CDP's local permitting office to pull individual job permits before beginning any work.
