Sec. 341.205. - Solar hot water heaters.

A device, tank, heater, collector, piping or other equipment which is designed or installed to heat or cool the air or the domestic water supply in a building by the utilization of solar energy and is directly connected to the potable water system shall comply with all provisions of this Building Code for plumbing, including the requirement for a plumbing permit for installation.
