Sec. 37.107. - Department of Corrections.

(a) There is established a Department of Corrections to provide detention of both sentenced and nonsentenced inmates and to provide security for the courts. In addition, the Department of Corrections will be responsible for providing such inmate health care as may be required by law, to include medical, dental, and mental health services of an outpatient nature and make necessary referrals for other health related services. (b) The Director of Corrections shall be the head of the Department of Corrections. He shall have a college degree or at least five years' experience and commensurate training. (c) The Department of Corrections shall be organized into the following divisions, each of which shall be headed by a division chief: (1) Jails Division. (2) Prisons Division. (3) Programs & Transitional Services Division. The Sheriff shall specify the duties and responsibilities of each division and division chief.
