Sec. 638.201. - Contractual public court reporters.

No permanent full-time public court reporters shall be employed by the City, except the chief public court reporter authorized by this Section. The Mayor is authorized to engage public court reporters as independent contractors, and not as contractual employees of the City, either on an annual basis or on an occasional or intermittent basis when and as they are needed for public purposes by the Council or its committees or by an executive agency; provided, that the Mayor is authorized to employ one public court reporter as a contractual employee of the City, who shall be the chief public court reporter for the City and who shall be responsible for coordinating and supervising the public court reporters who are engaged as independent contractors, for assigning and reassigning the reporters as necessary and for recommending to the Mayor the hire or termination of reporters as required for the official business of the City. Except for the chief public court reporter, the salaries and fees for the public court reporters shall be paid from the appropriations for other services and charges. The chief public court reporter employed by the Mayor and the public court reporters engaged under this Section shall be chosen from those court reporters who are listed on the list prepared under Section 126.308 .
