Who Needs a License

Florida requires licensure for individuals who offer to perform or perform engineering work as defined by state law. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "engineering" encompasses professional services or creative work requiring knowledge of engineering sciences and principles. This includes design, analysis, evaluation, and consultation on construction projects and infrastructure.

How to Get Licensed

Step 1: Meet Education & Experience Requirements

Step 4: Apply to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers

Submit your application through the Construction Industry Licensing Board established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107. The board processes applications, verifies credentials, and issues PE licenses.

The state board (not the town) issues engineering licenses. Processing typically requires 4–8 weeks after the board receives a complete application.
