Sewer/Water Licensing in Pioneer CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

Florida law regulates contractors who engage in the construction, installation, alteration, repair, or maintenance of plumbing and water systems. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, a "contractor" performing sewer or water work must hold a valid license unless specifically exempted. The work itself—installing, repairing, or modifying potable water lines, sanitary sewer lines, or related systems—requires licensure under state construction industry regulations.

How to Get Licensed

Licensing authority rests with the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board under Fla. Stat. § 489.107. To obtain a sewer/water contractor license, you must:

  1. Meet qualifications per Fla. Stat. § 489.113, which requires:
  2. Four years of experience in the trade (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
  3. Passing the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Examination
  4. Financial responsibility and good moral character

  5. Apply through the CILB, the state board responsible for issuing all contractor licenses in Florida. The application includes proof of experience, examination results, and evidence of workers' compensation insurance.

  6. Pass the required exam administered by the Board, covering Florida construction law, industry standards, and sewer/water system practices.

For medical gas-related water system work, additional certification under Fla. Stat. § 489.1136 may apply.

Contact the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board directly for current application procedures, exam dates, and fees.
