Permits—Types
Section: 11-48
Permits shall be required for the following:
(1)
Petroleum product storage tanks.
a.
Required for the installation, alteration, removal or repair of tanks intended to store liquid petroleum products or any other flammable or combustible liquids.
b.
May be issued to state-certified and city-licensed petroleum equipment contractors upon approval of plans as required by the official and upon payment of required fees.
c.
Scope of work. A petroleum product storage tank permit authorizes the permittee to perform the work indicated on approved plans in accordance with applicable codes and within the scope of the permittee's certificate of competency.
(2)
Liquid propane gas (LPG).
a.
Required for the installation, alteration or repair of LPG tanks, valves, piping and/or appliances.
b.
May be issued to state-certified and city-licensed LPG contractors upon approval of plans as required by the official and upon payment of required fees.
c.
Scope of work. An LPG installation permit authorizes the permittee to perform the work indicated on the permit (and the approved plans, when applicable) in accordance with applicable codes and within the scope of the permittee's certificate of competency.
(3)
Fire suppression system.
a.
Required for the installation, alteration or repair of fire suppression systems.
b.
May be issued to state-certified and city-licensed fire protection contractors upon approval of plans as required by the official and upon payment of required fees.
c.
Scope of work. A fire suppression system installation permit authorizes the permittee to perform the work indicated on approved plans in accordance with applicable codes and within the scope of the permittee's certificate of competency.
(4)
Fire alarm system.
a.
Required for the installation or alteration of fire alarm systems.
b.
May be issued to state-certified and city-licensed low voltage electrical or electrical contractors upon approval of plans as required by the official and upon payment of required fees.
c.
Scope of work. A fire alarm system installation permit authorizes the permittee to perform the work indicated on approved plans in accordance with applicable codes and within the scope of the permittee's certificate of competency.
(5)
Liquid propane gas (LPG) sales, transport, storage and handling.
a.
Required for the sale, transportation, storage and handling of liquid propane gas.
b.
May be issued to state-certified and city-licensed LPG contractors upon inspection and approval of the business facility, including equipment and vehicles, and upon payment of required fees.
c.
Scope of work. An annual LPG sales, transport, storage and handling permit authorizes the permittee to seal, transport, store and handle liquid propane gas in accordance with applicable codes and within the scope of the permittee's certificate of competency.
(6)
Temporary tent.
a.
Required for installation of tents in excess of one hundred (100) square feet to be used for any commercial or nonprofit activity where the public at large is invited to attend.
b.
May be issued to licensed general building or residential contractors, property lessees or their agents, a city-licensed tent rental company.
c.
Scope of work. The holder of a tent permit is authorized to erect a tent or tents in accordance with the approved plans and subject to the requirements of the official.
(7)
Blasting.
a.
Required for the use of explosives, as defined in F.S. Ch. 552, within the city limits.
b.
May be issued to persons holding a current explosive materials user's license issued by the state fire marshal upon approval of an application as required by the official and upon payment of required fees.
c.
Scope of work. A blasting permit authorizes the permittee to perform the work indicated on the permit application as approved by the official in accordance with applicable codes and within the scope of the permittee's license.
(8)
Transportation of explosives.
a.
Required for the transportation of explosives, as defined in F.S. Ch. 552, into, through or within the city limits.
b.
May be issued to persons holding a current explosive materials user's license issued by the state fire marshal or commercial carriers properly licensed to transport explosives upon approval of an application as required by the official and upon payment of required fees.
c.
Scope of work. An explosives transport permit authorizes the permittee to transport explosives within the city limits under the terms and conditions set by the official.
(9)
Public display of fireworks.
a.
Required for the public display of fireworks within the city limits.
b.
May be issued to a licensed and insured fireworks display operator who has met the requirements of the official as to competency and experience.
c.
Scope of work. A fireworks display permit authorizes the permittee to conduct such a display within the city limits under the terms and conditions set by the official.
(10)
Retail sale of sparklers.
a.
Required for the retail sale of pyrotechnic novelty devices.
b.
May be issued to retailers holding a current certificate of registration issued by the state fire marshal.
c.
Scope of work. The retail sale of sparklers which are approved for sale by the state fire marshal and other devices not classified as fireworks.
(11)
Other permits. Other permits as described in the Standard Fire Prevention Code hereinafter adopted are required as set forth in such standard code. The official shall determine to whom such permits may be issued and shall specify the work or activity permitted thereby.
