Authorization required for interment and/or disinterment; information to be shown

Section: 8-8

No interment/disinterment shall be made in any cemetery and no grave shall be opened therein or body removed without prior written authorization obtained from the parks and recreation department, local registrar of vital statistics or such other person as may be authorized by law to issue the appropriate permit, and such work shall be under the direction of the parks and recreation department. A minimum of twenty-four (24) hours notice shall be required prior to interment or disinterment of any human remains. The parks and recreation department must be provided with an original transit permit or cremation certificate from such office or person as may be authorized by law to permit the burial of the remains before opening any grave. The parks and recreation department shall add the date and place of burial of the body to the transit permit or cremation certificate, and to forward such transit permit to the city clerk for notation in the record book.
