Engineering Licensing in Pittman CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

Florida law regulates professional engineers under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, which defines "practice of professional engineering" as offering or performing services that require specialized knowledge of mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering principles. Any person offering engineering services in Pittman CDP must hold a valid Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).

This includes design, analysis, consultation, and certification of engineering work on structures, infrastructure, and systems. Unlicensed practice is prohibited under Fla. Stat. § 489.113.

How to Get Licensed

State Licensing Process:

  1. Meet qualifications per Fla. Stat. § 489.113: Complete an ABET-accredited engineering degree and accumulate four years of progressive engineering experience under a licensed PE, or meet alternative education/experience combinations specified in statute.

  2. Apply to DBPR: Submit an application through the DBPR office in Tallahassee with proof of education and experience.

  3. Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam: Required before or concurrent with experience accumulation.

  4. Pass the Professional Engineering (PE) exam: Taken after meeting experience requirements in your discipline (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.).

  5. Military credit: If applicable, Fla. Stat. § 489.1131 allows credit for relevant military training and education toward experience and exam requirements.

The Construction Industry Licensing Board, referenced in Fla. Stat. § 489.107, does not issue PE licenses—that authority rests with DBPR's Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors Board.
