Water Conditioning Licensing in Pine Island Center CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

Under Florida law, anyone performing water conditioning work must hold the appropriate state license unless they qualify for an exemption. Water conditioning is regulated as a construction trade in Florida and falls under the Construction Industry Licensing Board's jurisdiction.

Per Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "water conditioning" includes the installation, repair, and maintenance of water treatment systems designed to soften, purify, or otherwise condition water for residential or commercial use. This includes but is not limited to ion exchange softeners, reverse osmosis systems, and filtration equipment.

Work performed on water conditioning systems requires licensure unless you meet a specific exemption (see Exemptions section below).

How to Get Licensed

Water conditioning licensing is administered by the state of Florida, not by individual municipalities. Follow these steps:

  1. Contact the Construction Industry Licensing Board under Fla. Stat. § 489.107 for current application procedures, exam schedules, and fee information.

  2. Meet qualification requirements per Fla. Stat. § 489.113, which establishes minimum experience, education, and examination standards for licensure in this trade.

  3. Pass the state licensing exam demonstrating competency in water conditioning installation, repair, and safety codes.

  4. Apply for a Florida state license once you have met all qualifications. Your license will be valid statewide, including in Pine Island Center CDP.

Local Requirements

Pine Island Center CDP is located in Lee County, Florida. While the state issues the water conditioning license, you must also comply with local permitting requirements before beginning work.

Exemptions

Per Fla. Stat. § 489.103, certain work is exempt from licensure. Exemptions include work performed by the property owner on their own property (in some circumstances) and certain maintenance activities. Review the statute directly to determine if your specific work qualifies for exemption.
