Sewer/Water Licensing in San Carlos Park CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

In Florida, persons who construct, repair, or install plumbing systems—including sewer and water work—must hold a valid license unless they qualify for an exemption. Fla. Stat. § 489.105 defines plumbing as work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of pipes, fixtures, and appliances for water supply, drainage, and gas systems. This includes sewer laterals, water mains, and related connections on both residential and commercial properties.

Work performed for compensation or as part of a trade requires licensing. Unlicensed work is prohibited and subject to penalties.

How to Get Licensed

State Licensing Authority: The Construction Industry Licensing Board oversees plumbing licenses under Fla. Stat. § 489.107.

  2. Four years of experience in the plumbing trade (or equivalent apprenticeship), OR
  3. High school diploma/GED plus documented apprenticeship hours
  4. Current Florida residency or valid work authorization

  5. Pass the Exam: You must pass the Florida Plumbing License Examination. Exam content covers state plumbing code, water quality standards, and safety regulations.
