Plumbing Licensing in Anna Maria, Florida
Who Needs a License
Any person who engages in plumbing work in Anna Maria must hold a Florida plumbing license. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, plumbing is defined as the installation, maintenance, and repair of pipes, fixtures, and appliances for the conveyance and use of water and removal of waterborne wastes. This includes work on water supply lines, drainage systems, gas piping for appliances, and medical gas systems.
Plumbing contractors, journeyworkers, and apprentices performing plumbing work within Anna Maria city limits must be licensed by the state before beginning work.
How to Get Licensed
Florida plumbing licenses are issued by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) under Fla. Stat. § 489.107. The licensing process requires:
-
Apprentice Registration: Complete a registered apprenticeship program with the Florida Department of Education and Workforce. You must work under a licensed plumber.
-
Journeyworker Certification: After completing apprenticeship hours (typically 8,000 work hours and classroom hours), pass the state journeyworker examination administered by the CILB.
-
Contractor License: After working as a journeyworker, you may apply for a contractor license by meeting experience requirements and passing the contractor examination.
All applicants must meet the qualifications in Fla. Stat. § 489.113, including U.S. citizenship or lawful residency and good moral character. The board may impose restrictions on licenses based on prior violations or disciplinary history.
For medical gas piping installations, Fla. Stat. § 489.1136 requires additional medical gas certification.
Apply directly to the Construction Industry Licensing Board through the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
