HVAC Licensing in On Top of the World CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

Any person who performs, offers to perform, or holds themselves out as able to perform air conditioning work in On Top of the World must hold a valid Florida Construction Industry License for HVAC contracting. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "air conditioning" includes the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This applies whether the work is performed on residential or commercial property within the CDP.

How to Get Licensed

HVAC licensing in Florida is administered by the Construction Industry Licensing Board, established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107.

To qualify for an HVAC license:

  1. Meet experience requirements: You must document four years of experience performing HVAC work within the preceding five years, per Fla. Stat. § 489.113.

  2. Pass the state exam: The Construction Industry Licensing Board administers the HVAC contractor examination. Application and exam scheduling occur through the state licensing system, not locally.

  3. Apply to the state: Submit your application, experience documentation, and exam results to the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board. This is a state-level process; no local application is required for the license itself.

  4. Obtain your license: Upon approval, you receive your Construction Industry License for HVAC contracting, valid statewide including On Top of the World.
