Sewer/Water Licensing in On Top of the World CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

In Florida, individuals who engage in the business of installing, constructing, repairing, or maintaining sewage or water systems must hold a valid license issued under Chapter 489, Florida Statutes. [Fla. Stat. § 489.105] defines these trades and establishes that work on public or private water and sewer infrastructure is regulated.

Specifically, sewer/water contractors perform work that includes but is not limited to:
- Installation and repair of water distribution lines
- Installation and repair of sanitary sewer lines
- Septic system installation and maintenance
- Water treatment and distribution system work

If your business offers these services for compensation in On Top of the World CDP, you must be licensed before performing work.

How to Get Licensed

Florida issues sewer/water contractor licenses through the Construction Industry Licensing Board. [Fla. Stat. § 489.107] establishes the board's authority to issue licenses.

Steps:

  1. Verify qualifications: You must meet experience and education requirements under [Fla. Stat. § 489.113], which specifies minimum hours of practical experience in the trade, documented work history, and passage of a state examination.

  2. Apply with the state: Submit your application to the Construction Industry Licensing Board with proof of qualifying experience, financial statements if required, and examination results.

  3. Pass the licensing exam: The exam tests knowledge of Florida construction code, safety practices, and trade-specific standards for water and sewer systems.

  4. Obtain your license: Upon approval, you receive a state contractor license valid for two years.

Reference [Fla. Stat. § 489.113] for complete qualification details and experience hour requirements specific to your classification.
