Engineering Licensing in Country Walk CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

In Florida, any person who offers to perform engineering services or uses the title "engineer" must hold a license issued by the state. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "engineering" means professional services performed for public and private clients that involve the application of engineering principles and data to provide consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning, design, and supervision of construction for public or private improvement projects.

Work requiring licensure includes design of structures, systems, and infrastructure; consultation on engineering matters; and supervisory roles on construction projects. Unlicensed practice is prohibited and subject to penalties.

How to Get Licensed

Step 1: Meet Education & Experience Requirements

Per Fla. Stat. § 489.113, you must:
- Hold a degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program (or equivalent), and
- Complete four years of progressive engineering experience under a licensed professional engineer

Alternatively, meet the five- or six-year experience pathways if your education differs from the standard degree requirement.

If you have relevant military training and education, Fla. Stat. § 489.1131 allows credit toward these requirements—submit military transcripts and documentation with your application.

Step 2: Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam

You must pass the FE exam after meeting education requirements.

Step 3: Pass the Professional Engineer (PE) Exam

After accumulating four years of qualifying experience, pass the PE exam in your engineering discipline.

Step 4: Apply to the Florida Board

Submit your application to the Construction Industry Licensing Board (established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107). This state board processes all professional engineering licenses. Contact the Board directly for current application procedures, fees, and exam schedules.
