Sewer/Water Licensing in Homestead Base CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

Any person who constructs, repairs, or maintains public or private sewer and water systems in Homestead Base CDP must hold a valid Florida contractor's license in the Sewer and Water Contractor classification, unless exempt under state law. [Fla. Stat. § 489.113]

This includes work on potable water lines, sanitary sewer lines, storm drains, and related appurtenances that serve residential, commercial, or industrial properties.

How to Get Licensed

Step 1: Meet Experience Requirements
You must demonstrate 4 years of work experience in sewer and water construction within the 10-year period before application, with at least 2 of those years as a supervisor or tradesperson performing the actual work. [Fla. Stat. § 489.113]

Step 2: Pass the Exam
Apply to the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) and pass the Sewer and Water Contractor examination. The exam tests knowledge of Florida Statutes Chapter 489, industry standards, and technical competency. [Fla. Stat. § 489.107]

Step 3: Submit Application
File your application with the CILB through the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). Include proof of experience, exam results, and all required documentation.

Step 4: Receive License
Upon approval, you'll receive a license valid for 2 years and renewable by meeting continuing education requirements.
