Who Needs a License

Florida law regulates the practice of engineering as a trade within the construction industry. How to Get Licensed

Florida's Construction Industry Licensing Board, established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107, administers engineering licenses. To become licensed:

3. Passage of the Professional Engineer (PE) examination

4. Compliance with any restrictions imposed by the Board

5. Document military service (if applicable): Fla. Stat. § 489.1131 provides credit for relevant military training and education toward licensing requirements.

6. Apply through the state: Applicants must submit credentials to the Construction Industry Licensing Board, not to a local office. The Board evaluates education, work experience, and exam results.

7. Pass the PE exam: Candidates must demonstrate competency through the standardized Professional Engineer examination.
