Engineering Licensing in Callahan, Florida
Who Needs a License
Florida regulates professional engineers under Chapter 489, Florida Statutes. Any person who offers to perform or performs professional engineering services in Callahan must hold a valid license from the state.
Per Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "professional engineering" means the performance of professional services or creative work requiring engineering education, training, and experience in solving complex engineering problems. This includes design, analysis, and consultation on construction projects, infrastructure, and systems affecting public safety.
Not all construction work requires an engineer's license. Many trades—electrical, plumbing, HVAC—have separate licensing tracks. If your work involves structural design, site engineering, or any analysis requiring professional engineering judgment, you likely need this license.
How to Get Licensed

You must hold a bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent) per Fla. Stat. § 489.113.
Step 2: Gain Experience
You need four years of work experience under a licensed professional engineer. Credit for relevant military training and education may apply (Fla. Stat. § 489.1131).
Step 3: Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam
Apply to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers (established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107) to sit for this national exam.
Step 4: Pass the Professional Engineer (PE) Exam
