Who Needs a License

Requirements by Class
To qualify, you must meet experience and examination standards set by statute:
- Master Electrician: Minimum 8,000 hours of documented electrical work experience (or equivalent military training credit) within the past 5 years, plus pass the master electrician examination.[^3]
- Certified Electrician: Minimum 4,000 hours of documented experience under a master electrician, plus pass the certification examination.
- Registered Electrician: Minimum 2,000 hours of documented experience under a master electrician, plus pass the registration examination.
If you have relevant military training in electrical work, you may receive credit toward experience requirements.[^4]
