Sewer/Water Licensing in Maitland city, Florida

Who Needs a License

Florida regulates individuals and businesses that design, install, repair, or maintain potable water systems and wastewater treatment systems. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, a "sewer contractor" or "water contractor" is defined as any person who engages in the business of constructing, repairing, or maintaining sewer or water systems for compensation.

You must be licensed if you perform sewer or water work in Maitland. The scope includes installing, replacing, or servicing pipes, tanks, treatment equipment, and related infrastructure serving water supply or sewage disposal.

How to Get Licensed

State Licensing:

  1. Contact the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB), established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107, which administers contractor licensing statewide.
  2. Meet qualifications per Fla. Stat. § 489.113:
  3. Provide proof of experience (typically 4 years as a sewer or water contractor, or equivalent classroom/apprenticeship hours)
  4. Pass the state licensing exam for your contractor classification
  5. Demonstrate financial responsibility
  6. Submit your application to the CILB with required documentation and exam results.
  7. Obtain your license once approved.

The CILB is the sole issuing authority; local municipalities do not issue state contractor licenses.
