Electrical Licensing in Golf village, Florida
Who Needs a License
Any person who performs electrical work in Golf village must hold a state license unless exempt. Florida law defines "electrical contractor" work as the installation, construction, alteration, service, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment and wiring in buildings, structures, and premises.[Fla. Stat. § 489.105] This includes new installations, rewiring, panel upgrades, fixture installation, and troubleshooting electrical systems.
Work that is incidental to another licensed trade (such as a plumber installing a simple outlet for a water heater) may fall under exemptions, but electrical work performed as the primary service requires licensure.
How to Get Licensed
-
Determine your license classification. Florida issues licenses for Electrical Contractor, Electrical Apprentice, Electrical Journeyman, and Electrical Technician. Your classification depends on experience, training, and exam passage.[Fla. Stat. § 489.113]
-
Meet qualifications. For a Contractor license, you typically need four years of experience as a licensed journeyman or equivalent combination of education and experience. Apprentices and journeymen have different requirements.[Fla. Stat. § 489.113]
-
Credit military training if applicable. If you have relevant military electrical training, you may receive credit toward experience requirements.[Fla. Stat. § 489.1131]
-
Apply with the Construction Industry Licensing Board. The Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board administers electrical licenses statewide.[Fla. Stat. § 489.107] Submit your application, proof of experience, and exam fees to the Board.
-
Pass the licensing exam. The Board administers examinations covering electrical code, safety, and trade knowledge.
-
Receive your license. Once approved, your state license permits you to work throughout Florida, including Golf village.
