Plumbing Licensing in The Acreage CDP, Florida
Who Needs a License
Any person who installs, constructs, alters, or repairs plumbing systems in The Acreage must hold a valid Florida plumbing license. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, plumbing work is defined as the installation, maintenance, and repair of pipes, fixtures, and appurtenances connected to a water or waste system. This includes water supply lines, drain lines, vents, and all related components.
If you perform plumbing work for compensation—whether as a contractor, subcontractor, or employee—you must be licensed before beginning work.
How to Get Licensed
Step 1: Meet Qualifications
Per Fla. Stat. § 489.113, you must have at least four years of practical experience in plumbing work under a licensed contractor. Alternatively, you may substitute relevant education from an accredited technical school for up to one year of the experience requirement.
Step 2: Pass the Examination
You must pass the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) examination. The exam tests knowledge of the Florida Building Code, the Florida Administrative Code, and plumbing practices.
Step 3: Apply to the CILB
Submit your application to the Construction Industry Licensing Board as authorized under Fla. Stat. § 489.107. Include proof of experience, exam results, and required fees. The CILB issues state-level contractor licenses; a single state license allows you to work throughout Florida, including The Acreage.
