Water Conditioning Licensing in The Acreage CDP, Florida
Who Needs a License
Under Florida law, any person who installs, maintains, repairs, or services water conditioning equipment—including water softeners, filters, reverse osmosis systems, and related treatment devices—must hold a valid license as a water conditioning contractor.[^1]
Work that requires licensing includes:
- Installation of water conditioning systems
- Repair and maintenance of existing systems
- System design and specification
- Any work involving potable water treatment in residential or commercial settings
If your work involves medical gas systems, additional certification may be required under Fla. Stat. § 489.1136.[^2]
How to Get Licensed
State Licensing (Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation):
-
Meet qualifications: You must satisfy experience and competency requirements under Fla. Stat. § 489.113.[^3] This typically requires documented work experience in water conditioning and passing a trade examination.
-
Apply to the Construction Industry Licensing Board: Submit your application to the state licensing board established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107.[^4] The board handles all contractor licensing for this trade.
-
Pass the examination: You must pass the Florida water conditioning contractor examination, which tests knowledge of installation codes, safety standards, and best practices.
-
Receive your license: Once approved, you'll receive a state contractor license number required for all work in Florida, including The Acreage.
Refer to Fla. Stat. § 489.105 for precise definitions of what constitutes licensed water conditioning work.[^5]
