Electrical Licensing in Ridgecrest CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

Under Florida law, anyone performing electrical work must hold the appropriate license. Fla. Stat. § 489.105 defines "electrical contracting" as installing, constructing, altering, servicing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment. This includes wiring, panels, fixtures, and related components in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

Work requiring licensure includes new installations, repairs, replacements, and upgrades to electrical systems. Even minor modifications typically require a licensed electrician.

How to Get Licensed

Florida issues electrical licenses through the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB). Per Fla. Stat. § 489.107, the CILB administers licensing for all construction trades statewide, including electrical work.

Steps to obtain licensure:

  1. Determine your license classification (Electrical Contractor, Electrical Apprentice, etc.)
  2. Meet experience and training requirements under Fla. Stat. § 489.113, which typically require documented hours of practical work and classroom instruction
  3. If you have relevant military training or education, Fla. Stat. § 489.1131 allows you to apply for credit toward these requirements—submit your DD214 or equivalent documentation
  4. Pass the state examination administered by CILB
  5. Submit your application directly to CILB (not to the town)

Contact the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board for current application procedures, examination schedules, and fees. The state board processes all licensing; Ridgecrest does not issue electrical licenses.
