Real Estate Licensing in Alturas CDP, Florida
Who Needs a License
Under Florida law, a real estate license is required for any person who, for compensation, sells, exchanges, purchases, rents, or leases real property, or who negotiates or offers to negotiate any of these transactions on behalf of others.[^1] This includes real estate brokers and sales associates.
A "real estate broker" is defined as any person who sells, exchanges, purchases, rents, or leases real property, or who negotiates or offers to negotiate any of these transactions, and who employs, appoints, or authorizes other licensees to represent the broker in those transactions.[^1] A "sales associate" is any person employed by or associated with a broker to perform these activities under the broker's supervision.
How to Get Licensed
Florida real estate licensing is administered by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). You do not apply through Alturas or Polk County.
Step 1: Pre-License Education
Complete an approved 63-hour real estate sales associate prelicense course from an accredited provider.
Step 2: Pass the State Exam
After completing prelicense education, register with DBPR and pass the Florida Real Estate Commission exam.
Step 3: Broker Sponsorship
You must be employed by or associated with an active Florida-licensed broker before your license is issued.
Step 4: Application
Submit your application to DBPR with your exam passing scores, broker sponsorship letter, and required fees.
For complete procedures, refer to Fla. Stat. § 489.105 and contact DBPR directly—they are the state licensing authority, not Alturas.
