Home Inspector Licensing in Babson Park CDP, Florida
Who Needs a License
Home inspection is regulated under Florida law. Any person who, for compensation, inspects buildings or structures and provides written reports on their condition must be licensed as a home inspector under Fla. Stat. § 489.105.
This applies in Babson Park CDP and throughout Polk County. If you perform home inspections for a fee—whether as a sole proprietor, employee, or contractor—you need a state license.
How to Get Licensed
State Licensing Process:
-
Meet qualifications. Per Fla. Stat. § 489.113, you must be at least 18 years old, a Florida resident (or have a registered office in Florida), and meet education and experience requirements set by the Construction Industry Licensing Board.
-
Apply to the Construction Industry Licensing Board. The Board, established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107, issues all home inspector licenses in Florida.
-
Pass the licensing examination. Fla. Stat. § 489.111 requires examination for licensure. You must pass the state-approved home inspector exam administered by the Board.
-
Submit proof of qualifications. Include documentation of your experience, education, and any required continuing education hours.
Contact the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) for current exam schedules, application forms, and fee information. The Board sets all examination and licensure standards statewide.
Local Requirements
Babson Park CDP is located in Polk County. Building permits for home inspections and related construction work are issued by the Polk County Building Department, not a municipal department.
