Electrical Licensing in Crystal Lake CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

Any person who installs, constructs, alters, repairs, or maintains electrical systems and equipment must hold an active Florida electrical license, unless exempt. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "electrical contractor" means a person who undertakes with or without a contract to construct, maintain, alter, repair, add to, subtract from, or superintend electrical systems and equipment. This includes work on wiring, conduits, fixtures, appliances, and related installations.

The requirement applies regardless of whether the work is performed as the primary trade or incidental to another service.

How to Get Licensed

Florida electrical licenses are issued by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) under authority of Fla. Stat. § 489.107.

Steps:
1. Meet qualifications per Fla. Stat. § 489.113: You must have either 4 years of relevant work experience (with at least 12 months as a supervisor or in responsible charge) or equivalent education/apprenticeship as defined in the statute.
2. Obtain an application from the CILB or its designated agent.
3. Pass the state licensing exam covering electrical code, safety, and trade knowledge.
4. Submit proof of experience or education documentation.
5. Receive your state license once approved.

Military service members may receive credit for relevant training and education under Fla. Stat. § 489.1131.

The state board, not the town, issues the license. Contact the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board for application procedures and exam scheduling.
