Engineering Licensing in Homeland CDP, Florida
Who Needs a License
Florida law regulates professional engineering services. If you design, prepare plans, or offer professional engineering services in Homeland CDP, you must be licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) under Fla. Stat. § 489.113. This applies to structural design, site plans, utility systems, and other engineering work that affects public safety.
Work that involves construction but does NOT require engineering licensure may fall under contractor licensing instead. Fla. Stat. § 489.105 defines the scope of regulated engineering practice, which is limited to services requiring specific engineering knowledge and judgment.
How to Get Licensed
-
Meet Qualifications: Per Fla. Stat. § 489.113, you must hold a degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program, complete required work experience (typically 4 years under a licensed PE), and pass the Professional Engineer (PE) exam administered by the Florida Engineering Management Corporation (FEMC), which acts under the Construction Industry Licensing Board.
-
Military Credit: If you have relevant military training and education, Fla. Stat. § 489.1131 allows credit toward experience requirements. Document your military service record and submit it with your application.
-
Apply to FEMC: Submit your application, transcripts, work history, and exam results to the entity managing licensing under the Construction Industry Licensing Board per Fla. Stat. § 489.107. The Board oversees all construction-related licensure in Florida.
-
Obtain Your License: Once approved, you receive your PE license, which allows you to practice and sign engineering documents in Florida.
