Engineering Licensing in Crescent City, Florida

Who Needs a License

In Florida, a professional engineer license is required to perform engineering work as defined by state law. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "practice of engineering" means providing services or creative work requiring the application of engineering principles and data in the planning, design, or supervision of construction, or in other professional capacities where public welfare is at stake.

Work that requires licensure includes designing structures, systems, and infrastructure; preparing engineering plans and specifications; and providing professional engineering consultation on projects affecting public health, safety, or welfare. Fla. Stat. § 489.113 sets qualification and practice standards for licensed engineers.

How to Get Licensed

State Application Process:

  2. Apply to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), which administers licensure through the Construction Industry Licensing Board established under Fla. Stat. § 489.107.

  3. Pass the Professional Engineer (PE) exam administered by NCEES (National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying).

  4. Obtain your PE license from DBPR once approved.
