Sewer/Water Licensing in Jay, Florida
Who Needs a License
In Florida, individuals who construct, repair, or maintain water and sewer systems must hold a valid state license. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "construction" includes work on potable water systems, wastewater treatment systems, and related infrastructure.
A license is required if you perform this work for compensation in Jay or Santa Rosa County, regardless of project size or complexity. This applies to both employees and independent contractors.

Apply to the Construction Industry Licensing Board. Per Fla. Stat. § 489.107, the state board issues all construction licenses, including water/sewer contractor licenses.

- Document relevant work experience (typically 4 years for a Class A or Class B license, or 2 years if you hold an associate degree in a related field)
- Pass the state licensing exam covering Florida construction law and trade-specific knowledge
- Provide proof of workers' compensation insurance

-
Apply through the state — contact the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) Division of Construction Industry Licensing, or apply online at their website.
