Engineering Licensing in Munson CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

Florida law regulates the practice of engineering as a professional service. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "engineering" means the performance of professional services or creative work requiring education, training, and experience in applying special knowledge of the mathematical and physical sciences to such professional services or creative work as consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning, design, and services during construction, manufacture, or fabrication.

If you perform engineering work in Munson CDP, you must hold the appropriate Florida professional engineering license issued by the Construction Industry Licensing Board unless you qualify for a statutory exemption.

How to Get Licensed

  1. Apply through the Construction Industry Licensing Board. The board, created under Fla. Stat. § 489.107, administers all professional licensure for engineers in Florida.

  2. Meet qualification requirements per Fla. Stat. § 489.113, which specifies education, examination, and experience requirements. These include holding a bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, gaining relevant work experience under a licensed professional engineer, and passing the Professional Engineer (PE) exam.

  3. Apply with the CILB. Submit your application, transcripts, exam results, and documentation of relevant experience directly to the Construction Industry Licensing Board at the state level. Processing typically takes 4–8 weeks.

  4. Obtain your license. Once approved, you will receive your Florida PE license and license number, required to practice engineering in the state and sign engineering documents.

Military applicants may receive credit for relevant military training and education under Fla. Stat. § 489.1131.
