Water Conditioning Licensing in Pine Level CDP, Florida

Who Needs a License

Under Florida law, any person who contracts to install, repair, or service water conditioning equipment must hold a valid license in the Water Conditioning Contractor classification. [Fla. Stat. § 489.105] defines water conditioning work as the installation, repair, or service of equipment that treats or conditions water for residential, commercial, or industrial use.

You do not need a license if you are performing water conditioning work on your own property (not for compensation), or if your work falls under specific exemptions outlined in state statute.

How to Get Licensed

State Licensing Process:

  1. Meet qualifications: You must have four years of work experience in water conditioning contracting within the ten years preceding application, or equivalent education and experience as defined in [Fla. Stat. § 489.113].

  2. Pass the examination: Apply to the Construction Industry Licensing Board [Fla. Stat. § 489.107], which administers contractor licensing in Florida. You must pass the state water conditioning contractor exam covering technical knowledge, code compliance, and business practices.

  3. Submit application: File your application with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), which processes all Florida contractor licenses under the authority of the Construction Industry Licensing Board [Fla. Stat. § 489.107].

  4. Obtain license: Upon approval and exam passage, you will receive your Florida Water Conditioning Contractor license.

Special Requirements: If your work involves medical gas systems, you must obtain medical gas certification in addition to your standard water conditioning license [Fla. Stat. § 489.1136].
