Who Needs a License

Florida requires licensure for individuals who offer or perform engineering services. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "practice of engineering" means providing professional services or creative work requiring engineering education, training, and experience. This includes design, construction administration, consulting, and expert analysis of engineering problems.

If you perform engineering work in Venice city, Sarasota County, you must hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the state unless you qualify for an exemption.

How to Get Licensed

Apply to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). The Construction Industry Licensing Board oversees professional engineering licensure under Fla. Stat. § 489.107.
