Electrical Licensing in Wildwood city, Florida

Who Needs a License

Any person who performs electrical work in Wildwood must hold a valid Florida electrical license. Under Fla. Stat. § 489.105, "electrical work" includes the installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment in buildings and structures. This covers wiring, panels, fixtures, motors, and related apparatus that generate, transmit, transform, or utilize electrical energy.

A license is required regardless of whether the work is performed for compensation or as part of employment. The scope includes new construction, renovations, service calls, and troubleshooting of electrical systems.

How to Get Licensed

Florida issues electrical licenses through the Construction Industry Licensing Board (Fla. Stat. § 489.107). The board administers three levels of electrical licensing:

  1. Electrician — Requires 8,000 hours of documented work experience under a licensed contractor or master electrician, plus passage of the state electrical exam.

  2. Certified Electrician — Requires 12,000 hours of documented experience and exam passage.

  3. Master Electrician — Requires 12,000 hours of experience, two years as a certified electrician or master electrician, and exam passage.

Application Process:
- Apply directly to the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board (not the city)
- Submit proof of required work hours documented by employers
- Pass the Florida electrical licensing examination
- Pay applicable state fees

Fla. Stat. § 489.1131 provides credit for relevant military training and education toward experience requirements if your background qualifies.
