HVAC Licensing in Wildwood, Florida

Who Needs a License

Any person who undertakes, offers to undertake, or represents themselves as able to undertake the design, installation, maintenance, or repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, or refrigeration systems must hold a valid Florida HVAC contractor license.[^1] This includes work on residential, commercial, and industrial equipment.

Work that involves connecting or disconnecting refrigerant lines, replacing compressors, installing ductwork, or performing system diagnostics falls under regulated HVAC contracting and requires licensure.[^1]

How to Get Licensed

Florida HVAC licensing is administered by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB), a statewide authority.[^2]

Step 1: Meet Qualifications
You must demonstrate five years of experience in HVAC work during the ten years preceding your application, or equivalent education and apprenticeship hours as defined by statute.[^3]

Step 2: Pass the HVAC Contractor Exam
Apply through the CILB with proof of experience or education and apprenticeship records. The CILB will schedule your examination. You must pass both the Florida HVAC contractor exam and the business and law exam.

Step 3: Obtain Your License
Upon passing, the CILB issues your HVAC contractor license. License fees and renewal requirements are set by the CILB.

For current application procedures, exam schedules, and fees, contact the Construction Industry Licensing Board through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
